Side Slits for piano cover

Side Slits

Side slits are designed to allow you to play the piano without having to take the entire cover off. Side Slits are put on each side of the piano cover, above the front legs. This allows the pianist to simply flip the front part of the cover back to play the piano, without having to completely remove the entire cover. This provides a seamless and convenient solution for those who require frequent access to their piano, without compromising on its protection. A very popular option, and added to the majority of covers.

Embroidery (Logo)

For the ultimate look of luxury, we recommend custom embroidery for your piano cover. For an additional fee, we can embroider the piano brand logo on either the front of the cover above the keys, or on the right sideboard of the piano (located above the leg on the sideboard). A great way to highlight your beautiful instrument, even when it's covered. Embroidery comes standard in gold thread. Custom colors are available upon request.

piano cover locking straps

Locking Straps

Locking straps are a popular option when the piano is in an area where people will want to remove the cover and play it. The straps keep the cover in place, and act as an effective barrier against tampering. Many schools, hotels, resorts and churches add this option to ensure their piano stays safe and secure.

How do locking straps work? There are 3 straps sewn into the cover--one by each of the front legs and one at the back of the piano. The straps meet underneath the piano in the middle, forming a "Y" shape (note larger covers will use 4 straps, forming an "X" shape). At the end of each strap is a plastic D-ring. You turn one of the rings sideways and insert it through the other D-ring. When you turn it back, they will now be interconnected (as shown in the picture below). The cover is now securely on the piano, and the straps need to be disconnected in order to remove the cover and play. Note that if you need additional security, you can add a padlock to the D-rings, completely preventing someone from removing the cover without having the key to the padlock.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can a piano cover protect my Baldwin's satin ebony or high-polish finish from scratches?

Yes. Baldwin grand pianos are commonly finished in polished ebony or satin ebony, both of which can accumulate dust and develop fine surface scratches over time. Our covers use a soft, non-abrasive lining designed to help reduce swirl marks while protecting the finish from dust, pets, and everyday household contact.

Are your covers custom-fitted for specific Baldwin models like the M, R, L, F, and BP Series?

Yes. We use Baldwin-specific templates covering the full model range, from the 4'8" C142 up through the 9' SD-10 concert grand, including B1/BP148, BP152, M1/225E, BP165, R1/C172/226E/227E, BP178, and C/L1/K. Because Baldwin has used different model names across different eras for nearly identical body shapes, our templates are matched to actual cabinet dimensions, not just the model letter.

How do I find my Baldwin grand's exact model and size before ordering a cover?

The Baldwin model number is typically found on the gold-colored plate inside the piano near the tuning pins or serial number. Common models include the BP148, BP165, R, L, C, F and SD10. Once you know the model, selecting the correct cover size is straightforward because Baldwin model names generally correspond to specific piano lengths.

Does the Baldwin ConcertMaster player-piano system change how a cover fits?

No. ConcertMaster and other player-piano retrofits are internal (they add components under the keybed and inside the action), so they don't change your Baldwin's external cabinet dimensions. You should still order based on your piano's model and length, not its features.

Will my Baldwin grand piano need a different cover if it was made in the USA versus the newer Baldwin models?

Usually no. The country of manufacture does not determine the cover size. What matters is the cabinet design and overall piano length. We have templates for the most common Baldwin grand piano models, including both vintage American-built Baldwins and newer Baldwin models, allowing us to produce a cover that closely follows the shape of your piano.

Were Baldwin grand pianos built in standard sizes?

Yes. Baldwin produced many grand piano models using standardized lengths that have remained well documented over the years. Popular examples include the Model R (5'8"), Model L (6'3"), Model F (7'0"), and Model SD10 (9'0"). Knowing the model number is usually all that's needed to choose the proper cover.

My Baldwin grand piano sits near a window. Which cover material is best?

If your Baldwin piano receives direct sunlight, we generally recommend our Premium Quilt material. It provides excellent protection while remaining breathable, helping reduce heat buildup beneath the cover. Combined with proper room humidity, this helps preserve both the finish and the piano's wooden components.

Are Baldwin Artist Series and Performance Series grand pianos covered differently?

No. The cover is selected based on the actual Baldwin model and cabinet dimensions, not the marketing series. Whether your piano is part of the Artist Series, Performance Series, or an earlier Baldwin lineup, choosing the correct piano length ensures the proper fit.
