Dr. Rein Vaga, DMA — Piano Expert & Co-Founder

Dr. Rein Vaga holds a Doctor of Musical Arts in Classical Piano Performance from the University of Arizona, with a minor in higher education administration. He is the co-founder of American Piano Covers — a business he established in 1996 out of a conviction that pianists and institutions deserved covers built to the same standard of care they brought to the instrument itself.

As a Performer

Dr. Vaga began his performance career in the Pacific Northwest, appearing as a soloist and performing with orchestras across the region. His concert work took him from the Pacific Northwest to Arizona, where he gave recitals and concert hall performances throughout his career. That time on stage — working alongside acoustic pianos in venues ranging from university halls to professional concert spaces — gave him a firsthand understanding of how instruments are handled, stored, and protected that most piano cover manufacturers simply don't have.

As an Educator

Dr. Vaga taught piano for more than 25 years across Arizona, California, and Oregon, working at the high school and college levels. He taught privately, in studio settings, and as a college professor — spanning the full range of piano education from beginning students to advanced collegiate performers. His minor in higher education reflected a commitment to pedagogy that went beyond performance, and his teaching career gave him direct exposure to how institutions — schools, universities, churches, performance venues — actually use and care for their instruments.

As a Community Leader

Outside music, Dr. Vaga served the North Clackamas School District in Oregon for more than 30 years. He served on the district budget committee and was elected to the North Clackamas Board of Directors, winning re-election in 2015, and serving 12 years total on the board, and six years as board chair.. His sustained commitment to public education in Oregon is consistent with the institutional knowledge he brings to American Piano Covers — an understanding of what schools, music departments, and performance programs actually need from the products they rely on.

About American Piano Covers

Dr. Vaga founded American Piano Covers in 1996 with a specific goal: to manufacture custom-fit piano covers using premium American materials and precision templates developed from actual piano measurements — not the generic sizing that characterizes most competitors. His performing experience informed his understanding of what a piano's finish requires. His teaching career informed his understanding of institutional use. His minor in education informed his belief that buyers deserve honest, expert guidance rather than promotional copy.

Today, American Piano Covers is a family business. Dr. Vaga's son joined after college and manages the company's day-to-day operations. Dr. Vaga remains an active co-owner, advisor, and the primary voice behind the company's educational content.
